When designing an addition for a low-slung house, the temptation is often to build upwards. But together with the owners of this Mamaroneck home on The Parkway, we decided to keep the expansion on one level and accentuate the low horizontal lines of this classic ranch. The long and low line of the new covered front porch is picked up on the other side of the garage to create a new sheltered mudroom and entry vestibule, while the southeast and southwest corners of the house open up to ample modern-detailed glass. The soaring living room and modernized kitchen gain access to these new views to the rear yard, each of the two spaces connecting to a brand new screened porch and sleek deck.
